Mission
The Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a multi-service non-profit agency passionately committed to empowering Deaf, Deafblind, Deafened and Hard of Hearing individuals through the delivery of our services and solutions.
The goals of the Society are:
• To promote the general well-being of all Deaf, Deafblind, Deafened and Hard of Hearing persons throughout British Columbia by all possible means, including the implementation and operation of medial, educational and social programs and the employment of professional trained personnel.
• To develop and co-ordinate community resources to further the employment of such persons.
• To bring to the attention of civic and governmental authorities and the general public the needs of such persons.
• To co-operate with the support any other associations formed for all of any of the objects of this Society including the Greater Vancouver Association of the Deaf and the Canadian Association for the Hard of Hearing.
• To promote, develop and operate facilities and services for the benefit of Deaf, Deafblind, Deafened and Hard of Hearing persons throughout the Province of British Columbia.
To achieve these goals, the agency provides a
range of programs and services:
• Employment Assistance Program
• American Sign Language Interpreting Services
• Hearing Aid Sales and Services
• Hearing Aid Loaner Program
• Better Communication with Hearing Loss Class
• Job Finding Clubs
• Resource Centre for Job seekers
• Communication and Assistive Devices sales and services
WIDHH is a non-profit agency that relies on public donations and grants or provides services under contract from the following: The United Way of the Lower Mainland, Employment Labour Market Services, Human Resources and Development Canada, Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch, Provincial Health Services Authority, Province of British Columbia, Vancouver Foundation, National Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, City of Kelowna and the City of Vancouver.
